Omar Kutty is a criminal defence lawyer based in Johor Bahru. He acts in a broad range of criminal matters — from drug offences to white-collar crime — and appears at every level from the Magistrate’s Court through to the Federal Court.

Acquittal in a capital case
A husband and wife were saved from the gallows after a legal battle that began in 2019. Their acquittal by the High Court followed sustained advocacy by our legal team, and allowed them to return to their family.
Counterfeit currency — s.489C
A 24-year-old online trader claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court in Kulai over two counterfeit RM100 notes alleged to have been held for use as genuine currency. The charge under s.489C of the Penal Code carries up to 10 years’ imprisonment on conviction.
Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia
Attended an examination under s.198B of the Criminal Procedure Act 2009 (Australia) in the murder trial of R v Alexander Wong, a hearing spanning three jurisdictions — Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.
Charge unknown to law — set aside
A client convicted on his own guilty plea at the Magistrate’s Court of Butterworth came to us afterwards. We acted pro bono on appeal and criminal revision, arguing he had been charged with an offence unknown to the law. The Attorney General’s Chambers did not oppose, and the High Court acquitted and discharged him.
